Taking a Risky Approach to Making Money
Poker is a game of betting and risk, and the best players know that they must weigh their chances in order to maximise profits. This approach to making money is also a key ingredient in the success of many entrepreneurs, and can be applied to almost any situation where you are uncertain about how well you will do.
The game of Poker is played with a small group of people around a table and a large pile of chips that represent your investment in the game. Each player has two cards that are hidden from the other players, called their hole or pocket cards, and then they bet on how strong their hand is. After a round of betting, three cards are dealt face-up on the center of the table, known as the flop. These are community cards that all players can use to build their poker hand.
After the flop, another round of betting takes place as players decide whether to fold their cards or call (match bets placed by opponents). A fifth card is then revealed on the table, known as the River. Once all players have finished their action, the showdown takes place and the player with the strongest poker hand wins.
While some players play safe and only bet with their best hands, this style can be exploited by opponents who will bluff more often against you, or avoid confronting you because they are afraid of your strength. In both poker and life, it is not always the best player who wins, but the one who has the most tenacity and courage to hold their ground until the end.
